Irish Historical Studies is an academic journal dedicated to the study of Irish history, dedicated to the publication of high quality original research articles covering all aspects of Irish history. Scholars are encouraged to submit original research on Irish history, which can be political, social, economic, cultural, religious and more. Articles should provide new perspectives, new findings, or in-depth analysis of existing research.

In addition to research articles, the journal also publishes articles on the scope and teaching of Irish history. These articles can explore how Irish history can be better understood and taught in education and how historical research can be integrated into teaching practice. Sometimes important historical documents are selected for publication, along with the editor's opinion and interpretation.
